; Since the late 1990s European and international organizations have been dealing with the remembrance of the holocaust as the main national-socialist crime against humanity. Using the example of the Strasbourg-based Council of Europe, Elisabeth Kübler emphasizes context and content of the supranational work regarding this crime. She focuses thereby on the implementation of a politics of holocaust memory in a cosmopolitan Europe.

"The author analyses focal points of collective memories that are 'sites of memory'. He presents the Czarina Catherine the Great monument in Ukrainian Crimea as an exemplification of the re-bordering of the Russian population, creating a sort of self-separating enclave. The russification of public space leads consequently to the exclavisation of the peninsula but also to border permeability between Russia and the Ukrainian province." (Abstract)
; The edited volume Nationen und ihre Selbstbilder (Nations and Their Seif-Images) focuses on the different formations of national societies and their historical self-conception since the reestablishment after war or system transformation in Europe. Beside mainly historiographic interpretative frameworks, also cultural and social sciences, linguistics and literature expand into the book. Particularly struggles about the interpretive predominance over historical events are being depicted which connect all contributions and thereby show similarities and differences in the reunited Europe.
